Egypt Recall Mohamed Zidan But Shut Out Mido For Algeria Clash

The Borussia Dortmund striker has been pardoned in time to join the squad for the titanic World Cup qualifying clash...

Mohamed Zidan, Egypt - Cameroon

Borussia Dortmund forward Mohamed Zidan has been handed a recall by Egypt. However, former Middlesbrough striker Mido was again overlooked by his country ahead of next month's crunch World Cup qualifier against Algeria.

Zidan was previously not considered for selection because he stayed away from a friendly against Guinea in Cairo in August. He has since apologised to coach Hassan Shehata.

But there is still no place for Mido, who last featured for Egypt in March. The controversial striker has yet to attain full match fitness since he rejoined childhood club Zamalek on loan from Boro.

Al Ahly defender Wael Gomaa misses the game due to suspension. He will, however, be eligible for selection should the World Cup battle extend to a play-off.

Algeria lead Group 3 with 13 points, three points more than closest rivals Egypt.

The Pharaohs could qualify for the World Cup ahead of their regional rivals if they win by a three-goal margin. But the qualification battle could go to a play-off if Egypt only manage a two-goal win.

Egypt's provisional squad:

Goalkeepers: Essam El-Hadary, Abdelwahed El-Sayed, Mahmoud Aboul-Saoud.

Defenders: Hany Saied, Abdul-Zaher Al-Saqqa, Sherif Abdul-Fadil, Ahmed Saied 'Ouka', Moatasem Salem, Wael Gomaa.

Midfielders: Ahmed Fathy, Ahmed Al-Muhammadi, Sayed Moawad, Abdul-Aziz Tawfeek, Ahmed Hassan, Mohamed Hommos, Hosny Abd-Rabou, Mohamed Shawky, Mohamed Shaaban, Ahmed Eid, Mohamed Barakat, Mohamed Aboutrika.

Strikers: Amr Zaki, Mohamed Zidan, Emad Meteb, Ahmed Raouf.
