Despite Matchday 10 of Ligue 1 being blighted by the postponement of the Olympique de Marseille-Paris Saint-Germain Clasico due to swine flu, there were a number of Africans who managed to have a positive impact this weekend.

Nigerian defender Onyekachi Apam (Nice), who has been uncharacteristically quiet since the start of the season, decide to wake up against seven-time champions Olympique Lyonnais on Saturday. The centre-back was amazing against the heavyweights in their win (4-1), finally living up to the expectations. It was up to him to become the boss of the defence when Cedric Kante left this summer, and he has finally achieved that level. The native of Aba picked up every ball that came his way and was part-responsible for the nightmare the Lyonnais endured.

Another who dazzled this weekend was Valenciennes goalkeeper Guy Ndy Assembe. The Cameroonian custodian was impassable against Saint-Etienne, and he helped his team get their third away win in five matches to move into the top half of the rankings. He single-handedly repelled les Verts' strikers with a series of tremendous saves.

Sochaux are having a great spell and it has coincided with their decision to install Tunisian left-back Yassin Mikari up a notch in the midfield. He did an amazing job, completely shutting down the right-side of the Lorient attack at the weekend. In addition, he was an offensive threat as well. He looks increasingly like Nadir Belhadj in that position. Another impressive Sochaux player is newly called-up Senegalese international Jacques Faty, who was also ask to play on the right side of the defence and looked comfortable with his new position.

Another Senegalese player who impressed was right winger Issiar Dia (Nancy). The flier proved so fast he put Grenoble's defence in a tough spot many times and was responsible for getting the decisive penalty, which was converted by Moroccan veteran Youssouf Hadji, blowing past Bostjan Cesar.

Lille's Ivorian recruit Gervinho scored a magnificent goal that did not prevent LOSC from losing at Auxerre (3-2) in the last minutes of the game. But the tiny technician was seminal in the first half, during which Lille scored their only two goals.

Cameroonian Danny Nounkeu (Toulouse), who arrived this summer from Pau with very little fanfare, has been gradually getting more time to play and showcase his skills. With much authority and poise, he showed le Tefece that they can count on him, helping them to a success over Lens (2-0).
