Egypt To Tackle Tanzania In World Cup Warm-Up
The African champions will get ready for their crunch World Cup qualifier against Algeria with a run-out against the East Africans...
Egypt will take on Tanzania in a warm-up match ahead of their World Cup qualifier at home to Algeria next month, just as they have pulled out of a friendly against Germany.
Egypt will tackle Tanzania on November 5 as part of their build-up for their must-win World Cup tie against Group Three leaders Algeria.
"We have decided to play Tanzania on November 5, that’s our best option," Egypt assistant coach Shawki Gharib told Modern Sport TV.
"The game is not included in the FIFA international agenda, that’s why we have chosen a team with no players abroad."
Algeria are three points ahead of Egypt, but could miss out on World Cup qualification if they lost 3-0 on November 14 in Cairo.
In the meantime, the Egypt Football Association (EFA) have opted out of a friendly with Germany slated for next month.
"Given these circumstances, there simply were too many uncertainties involved in the planning of the match in Gelsenkirchen," DFB general secretary Wolfgang Niersbach said.
"So, we have decided to seek a friendly agreement with the Egyptian Association and arrange another opponent for this date."
Germany will now face the Ivory Coast on November 18.
