Egypt Reject Possible World Cup Play-Off Against Algeria In North Africa
Egypt not keen on a World Cup play-off against Algeria in North Africa...
Egypt Football Association (EFA) president, Samir Zaher, has revealed that he turned down his Algerian counterpart Mohamed Rorawa's suggestion to hold a possible World Cup qualifying play-off between both countries in North Africa.
Algeria top Group Three in the qualifying stage on 13 points, three ahead of second-placed Egypt with one match remaining on November 14 at Cairo Stadium.
A victory by a three-goal margin for the Pharaohs will see them reach the World Cup due to a better goal difference.
However, If Egypt beat Algeria by a two-goal margin, a play-off game will be played to determine the group winners, as both sides will become equal in goal difference, goals scored and head-to-head record.
"Rorawa suggested holding the playoff in a North African country while he was in Egypt of late, but his suggestion was completely rejected," Zaher told FilGoal.com.
"FIFA need to determine the venue of that decisive match before our upcoming qualifier with Algeria on November 14.
"In all cases, the tickets will be equally distributed between us and Algeria."
Algeria need to win, draw or lose by a one-goal margin to ensure they will become one of Africa's representatives at the World Cup.
