Rwandan Premier League: APR And Atraco Win In League Openers
The defending league champions and runners-up both registered slim wins as the Rwandan league kicked off in earnest on Saturday...
The ten-time league champions APR beat rivals Police 3-2, despite missing most of their influential players at Mumena stadium. New signing Lwamba Bebeto's strike and a brace from veteran striker Bokota Labama rescued the military side from the wrath of Police.
Michele Niyonshuti and Eric Yirirwahandi scored the goals for Police. In Northern Province, Atraco pulled off a 2-1 win over Marines at Umuganda stadium.
New signing Jabir Mutarambirwa and Uganda Cranes influential midfielder Johnson Bagoole scored for the taxi-men side to ensure a good start to the new season.
APR's Dutch coach Erik Paske told New Times Sport that he has a great deal to do if the military side is to successfully defend the league title.
“We played a difficult match and we were missing key players like Abbas Rassou, Cedric Xavier, Jean Baptiste Mugiraneza due to injuries,” he said.
Southern Province giants Mukura were beaten 2-0 by AS Kigali at Nyamirambo stadium. Amin Mwizerwa notched a brace for the Kigali City club.
