The Bucs midfielder believes his team should be careful when they host Platinum Stars in an Absa Premiership clash at the Orlando Stadium tomorrow night. The hard-working skipper Benson Mhlongo said to SuperSport, "We must not underestimate Stars. I rate them a very good and well-organised team. If we do [underestimate them] then we could get punished."
Pirates have had the best start to a Premier Soccer League season in decades. They are unbeaten and lead the standing with 14 points from six matches, scoring seven and not conceding a league goal so far.
But the Bafana Bafana midfield anchorman added that Stars could be one of the teams challenging for the league title along with Pirates this season, despite the fact that they have only six points from as many matches.
"It is not how you start the season but how you finish it. Believe me I have great respect for Stars. They were unlucky to lose (1-0) to Kaizer Chiefs last week.
"They created a lot of goalscoring chances and they will have learnt from their mistakes. I expect them to bounce back against us. This is going to be a real test for us," Mhlongo said.
He added that he has a great deal of respect for Stars coach Steve Komphela. "Steve is first rate and knows what he wants and knows how to get the best out of his players. I worked with him at the national level and know how good a coach he is. Stars will give us a good run for our money,” said the Bafana midfielder.
