Nigeria Pick John Utaka & Obinna Nwaneri For Tunisia Clash
The Portsmouth forward and Switzerland-based defender have received late call-ups for next month's World Cup qualifier...
Nigeria coach, Shuaibu Amodu, has added Portsmouth forward John Utaka and FC Sion defender Obinna Nwaneri to his squad for next month's crunch World Cup qualifying tie against Tunisia in Abuja.
Top team official, Emmanuel Attah, disclosed that Amodu considered Utaka ahead of Club Brugge striker Joseph Akpala, while Nwaneri got the nod at the expense of Bolton Wanderers defender Danny Shittu.
Amodu said that on a recent visit to Europe, he failed to make contact with Shittu.
Last Friday, Amodu named a 21-man squad for the September 6 cracker in Abuja with the proviso that he will announce two other call-ups today.
Wolfsburg striker Obafemi Martins and Yakubu Aiyegbeni were left out of the squad over fitness fears.
Tunisia lead Group Two of the qualifiers with seven points, while Nigeria are second on five points after three rounds of matches.
Kenya are third in the standings with three points and Mozambique are rooted to the bottom with just a point.
