Inter Coach Jose Mourinho 'Playing Difficult' In Nigeria
Organisers of a visit to Nigeria of the Internazionale coach are far from happy with 'The Special One'...
One of the organisers of the visit of Jose Mourinho to Nigeria was left fuming after the Inter coach kept guests waiting for several hours at a special dinner in his honour in Lagos on Friday night.
The dinner was fixed for 8pm local time at the top-star Eko Hotel in the country's former capital city, but it was not until just before midnight that Mourinho turned up for the event.
"He has been playing difficult, playing the big boy," said one angry organiser, who would not wish to have his name in print.
The Portuguese coach, who has a huge following in Nigeria on account of his exploits with Chelsea and for sticking with Nigeria international midfielder, Mikel John Obi, has now insisted on heading home a day ahead of schedule.
He watched as the Kwara Football Academy team pipped their Royal Antwerp of Belgium counterparts 1-0 in Ilorin on Saturday, but has now told his hosts he will not go ahead with a visit to the Kwara Academy facility and an autograph signing session as he wishes to return to Portugal.
Top sources informed Goal.com that Mourinho pocketed a hefty appearance fee to visit Nigeria. The cash was made available by Kwara State Governor and soccer nut, Bukola Saraki, who ironically is a staunch supporter of Chelsea's city rivals, Arsenal.
The event organisers lost a huge slice of revenue when a top bank pulled out at the very last minute from sponsoring a football clinic to be conducted by Mourinho.
A source told Goal.com that the bank had gone back on its word to bankroll the clinic with about 100,000 Euros.
Another unhappy organiser simply warned: "In the coming days there will be more stink from this visit."
