Hossam Al-Badri, who has assisted Portuguese coach Manuel Jose for the past five seasons, has been named as head coach of Egyptian champions Ahly.
According to an official statement by Ahly, former international Al-Badri will now be in charge of the first team.
"The Ahly board have decided to name Hossam Al-Badri as the first team's head coach," read the statement.
Al-Badri became a frontrunner for the Ahly top job after Nelo Vingada quit last week, less than a week after he was announced as the club's new boss.
Vingada signed a two-year contract with the Red Devils last week, but stepped down days later because of 'family reasons'.
Ahly have been shooping for a replacement for the highly successful Jose, who left the club at the end of May to take over the Angola national team.
