Roger Lemerre Announces Final Morocco Squad For June Qualifiers

The Frenchman has named 23 players to his roster list for Morocco’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers versus Cameroon and Togo.

Morocco squad
Moroccan national team coach Roger Lemerre has announced a list of 23 players he will be relying on for the Atlas Lions’ qualifiers versus Cameroon and Togo which will take place during the month of June.

When compared to the expanded list released less than a week ago, the most notable omission from the roster is that of Jaouad Zairi who had been recalled into the squad after a two year absence to replace Adel Taarabt who is still recovering from knee surgery. According to mountakhab.net, the player has sustained an injury that will prevent him from taking part but details are murky.

Abdessalam Benjelloun was dropped due to coaching preferences and Adil Hermach is still unable to play after injuring his knee ten days ago.

Meanwhile, Mbark Boussoufa has made the squad despite suffering a double jaw fracture which will require surgery and will almost certainly rule him out of the Cameroon match on June 7. However, it is possible that Lemerre kept him in the team in order to use him on June 20 versus Togo if he is ready.

As expected, Youssef Safri and Abdeslam Ouaddou both miss out after neither of them were even included in the expanded roster due to disciplinary reasons.

Here is the list in full:

Goalkeepers: Karim Fegrouche (Wydad AC), Nadir Lamiaghri (Wydad AC), Karim Zaza (Aalborg Bk), Brahim Zaari (FC Den Bosch)

Defenders: Mickael Chretien Basser (AS Nancy-Lorraine), Oualid Regragui (Grenoble Foot 38), Elamine Erbate (Al-Wahda), Talal El Karkouri (SC Qatar), Mehdi Benatia El Moutaqui (Clermont Foot), Issam Adoua (Wydad AC). Badr El Kaddouri (Dinamo Kiev), Hassan El Mouataz (K.S.C.Lokeren)
