Mbark Boussoufa Taken Into Custody By Belgian Police
The Moroccan international was handcuffed and questioned in Brussels because he did not have any photographic identification on him during a police check.
On Sunday, Anderlecht midfielder Mbark Boussoufa was
taken into custody because he unable to provide proper identification to police
during an inspection made at a café he was frequenting in the Belgian capital.
The policemen were reportedly conducting the check as part of a drug investigation but there is still no indication regarding why the Moroccan international was violently apprehended and had his jacket ripped as he was being handcuffed, according liondelatlas.net.
The player spent a number of hours in jail before he was released. He was not physically hurt during the altercation but is said to be deeply upset by his treatment and could be planning to sue the police officers in question. The police maintain that Boussoufa was not cooperative and thus force had to be used.
The mayor of Brussels, Freddy Thielemans, has reportedly requested a detailed report with “special attention to any element to suggest that abuse of power or a form of discrimination had been committed”.
Boussoufa is one of the Belgian Jupiler League’s most talented players and could well be on the move this summer despite previously maintaining he may stay in the country if his club qualify for the Champions League.
