Tunisia Looking To Strengthen U-17 Team

The Tunisian Football Federation is organising an open training camp in Paris to unearth new talent.

Tunisia’s Under-17 team could be in for some changes as it has been announced that the Tunisian Football Federation is organising an open training camp in Paris on April 20 and 21.

The camp will be open to all players of Tunisian descent who are currently enrolled at European clubs, as long as they are between the ages of 14 and 16. The new initiative is being co-sponsored by the “Gathering of Tunisian Sportsmen in France.”

The measure is thought to be a response to Tunisia’s inability to qualify for the latest U-17 African Nations Cup in Algeria which was won by the Gambia earlier this month.

Tunisia were eliminated from the qualifying round by Burkina Faso by the aggregate score of 3-1.

Despite suspicions that the West Africans might have been 'age-cheating', it was widely judged by the Tunisian media that the Tunisian U-17 team was far below the level of the squad which made it to the second round of the 2007 U-17 World Cup in South Korea under the guidance of former Esperance Sportive de Tunis playmaker Maher Kanzari.

It is partially for this reason that the Paris training camp is being held.
