Zurich & Tunisia Ace Yassine Chikhaoui Closing In On Return

The Tunisian star’s extended absence could come to an end as early as April 18, although he has been missing for more than a year.

After more than a year on the sidelines, Yassine Chikhaoui’s knee finally looks to be on the mend once and for all.

Zurich’s talented offensive midfielder underwent an operation on his patella tendon following the 2008 African Cup of Nations. Such surgery was meant to require a six month recuperation period but the player suffered several setbacks that ended up more than doubling the length of his rehabilitation.

However, following a successful procedure to remove excess scarring on the knee, the player is no longer suffering from the painful nerve damage that prevented him from returning sooner.

Chikhaoui’s doctors say that he is almost back to full fitness and the Tunisian told Swiss newspaper Basler Zeitung that he wanted to return to action “as soon as possible”.

According to the report, the playmaker could make his return during his side’s upcoming match versus Sion on April 18. The worst case scenario has him targeting the team’s last two matches in the Swiss league, which take place in late May.

The news will please fans of the Tunisian national side, who feel that he is an integral part of their World Cup qualifying hopes.
