League Action Stops Kenya Friendly

The Kenya Football Federation (KFF) has disclosed that the national team will not take on either Egypt or Togo in a proposed friendly next week, because the country's domestic league season is heading for the home stretch.

The league will be rounded up on November 22 and KFF Senior vice-chairman Titus Kasuve said that, as such, it would be impossible for the Harambee Stars to play a game at the same time.

“We have already communicated to the respective Federations regarding the change and that it would be impossible to convene players from clubs at this point in time,” Kasuve said.

Kenya were scheduled to tackle either Egypt or Togo on November 19 but Kasuve said it was also about the time teams in the league will be battling for the top honours.

However, the top official assured that the national team will soon begin their build-up to next year's World Cup and Nations Cup qualifiers in earnest.

"The team will be involved in the run up to the East and Central Africa Challenge Cup, which sets off in Kampala, Uganda in early December," he said.

“We are treating the Challenge Cup with the seriousness it deserves. We want to recapture the regional title. It’s a good build up for the home-based players.”

Kenya will battle Nigeria, Tunisia and Mozambique in the World Cup qualifying tournament next year.
