Nigeria has abandoned staging the tournament after its government said it can not afford the $30 million needed to host the event when the nation's infrastructure is in need of investment.

“They (Mexico) have offered themselves and we are very proud of this fact,” said Blazer.

Mexico is already in line to host the tournament in 2011.

However, Blazer said FIFA is committed to finding an African alternative for Nigeria to host the competition.

“He (Blatter) is going to continue to work to see whether they can find an appropriate alternative there first,” he said.

Already South Africa will host both the 2009 Confederation Cup and the 2010 World Cup while Egypt will stage the FIFA World youth Championship next year.

Ghana is also an option after hosting the African Nations Cup earlier this year.
