Ghana remain the major threat to
neighbouring Ivory Coast
in the group stages of the 2010 African Cup of Nations, Vahid Halilhodzic, the head
coach of the French-speaking country, has stated.
“Ghana are a strong team and have in their squad some of the best African players around,” Halilhodzic told the Ghana News Agency. "They have also qualified for the World Cup and have a strong team.
“It’s a difficult group. The two of us are the favourites but we are the pre-tournament favourites."
Ghana have been placed in an all-West African Group B. They face the Elephants of Ivory Coast, the Stallions of Burkina Faso and the Hawks of Togo.
The coach maintains the Stallions should not be treated with lightly after completing a double over them during the qualifying series.
“We know very well about Burkina Faso having played against them during the qualifiers, but it won’t be easy this time,” he noted.
In spite of the challenges ahead, Halilhodzic served notice that his men are determined to lift the trophy after managing a bronze feat in Ghana 2008.
“We are coming to the Africa Cup of Nations with lots of ambition and no team can halt that dream,” he firmly asserted.
Their opening game is against Burkina Faso in Cabinda on January 11.
Ivory Coast last won the cup in 1992 and have reached the semi-finals twice.
