thumbnail Hello,

Coach Mazda has picked an entirely locally-based side for the upcoming continental showpiece

Sudan coach Mohamed “Mazda” Abdallah announced his final 23-man squad for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) on Thursday. With a 3-0 international friendly loss to Tunisia behind him, Mazda axed six players from his provisional roster before sending in his official list to the Confederation of Africa Fooball (Caf) on Wednesday evening.

Unlike all other teams at the upcoming tournament, Sudan will be the only one drawing players exclusively from their domestic league as they look to replicate the form that saw them team progress to the semi-finals of the 2011 Africa Championship of Nations (Chan) that they hosted last January.

Despite looking unusually out of sorts during the loss against the Carthage Eagles on Monday, captain Haitham Mustafa was maintained in the squad. The Al Hilal player only recently returned to the Falcons of Jediane setup after reconciling his differences with coach Mazda.
