thumbnail Hello,

The hospital in Johannesburg where Obilale is recovering have reported that the keeper's condition is unchanged.

The condition of Kodjovi Obilale, the 25-year old Togolese goalkeeper who was seriously wounded by gunmen in Angola ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations last Friday, remains stable.

The player was part of the Togo team travelling by bus into Angola through Cabinda when they were attacked by rebels, and was one of the players who were hit. He was airlifted to the hospital from Angola on Saturday night and was immediately admitted for surgery.

“Although he remains ventilated, he is responding well to commands and his condition remains unchanged,” said Professor Elias Degiannis, who is part of the team that is caring for Obilale at the Netcare Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg, in a press release.

Obilale is in the care of a highly specialised trauma team under Prof Degiannis, assisted by Dr Maurizio Zorio and Prof Ken Boffard.

As a result of the attack the Togolese national team pulled out of the AFCON, but the competition has continued, with three games having been played thus far.
