African Cup Of Nations: Nigeria Assure Fans Of Team’s Safety
Team more security conscious in wake of armed attacks.
Nigeria have asked the Angolan authorities for better security arrangements in the aftermath of the armed attacks on the Togolese national team on Friday in Cabinda, a region of Angola.
Ademola Olajire, spokesman of the Nigeria Football Federation said Nigeria are keeping a close eye on the situation in the southern African country and will ensure that the Super Eagles are safe and sound during the AFCON tournament.
"We are monitoring the situation, but we have asked for additional security, including military escort for our team," Olajire told KickOffNigeria.com.
"We are aware that the shooting took place in Cabinda, well away from where our team is, but we would like to assure Nigerians that the NFF is doing everything to ensure that the players who represent us are safe."
Nigeria will play their group games in Benguela against Egypt, Mozambique and Benin. They begin their campaign on January 12 with hopes of winning a third African title.
