The North Africans will submit their official candidacy in the days to come.According to Mountakhab.net, Morocco will be one of the countries seeking to host the 2016 African Cup of Nations.
The decision is reportedly part of a wider plan to rebuild the North African country’s ailing football infrastructure which has been partly blamed for its inability to qualify for both the World Cup in South Africa and the next continental competition which will be held in Angola come January.
The Minister of Youth and Sport, Moncef Belkhayat, is expected to make the kingdom’s candidacy official shortly. Naturally, Morocco will have to submit a full proposal for hosting the event when the time is appropriate.
Other countries that are reportedly also interested in hosting the tournament are Kenya, DR Congo, Guinea, and Cameroon. Meanwhile, the 2012 edition will be hosted jointly by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea and the 2014 one will take place in Libya.
