Botswana coach Stanley Tshosane says that he wants to remain on the Botswana bench as head coach despite the side's 6-1 thrashing against Guinea at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations, where they no longer stand a chance of progressing to the quarter-finals.

The 55-year-old coach guided the Zebras to their first ever qualification for the Afcon, emerging as the first team to earn a ticket for Gabon and Equatorial Guinea despite being in a group with the likes of Tunisia, Togo and Malawi.

Tshosane defended himself and stated that he believes he has the right to continue in his current position as head coach of the southern Africans.

“My contract is ending next month. One loss is not enough to sack a coach. So, why should I go?” he told media at a press conference in Gabon.

The coach explained that a great deal of improvement needs to be made, but he believes that he knows the specific areas that need to be addressed.

“We are a very small nation, we do not play professional football in my country, most of the players have other jobs they do, we also need to expose our players internationally,” Tshosane said.

“We need to know when and how to react, when to go forward, when to go backwards and our concentration must be better but we have learnt from this experience.”
