Mali international Mohamed Fofana has suffered a groin injury which will rule him out of the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Toulouse defender picked up the injury in a practice match for the Eagles.
According to SuperSport, the 26-year-old was flown to France on Friday for medical treatment and is likely to be off the field for close to three weeks, by which time the tournament will be over.
Fofana is one of coach Alain Giresse’s pivotal defenders in a group that is completed by tournament favourites Ghana, Botswana and Guinea.
The report also revealed that OB Odense midfielder Kalilou Traore has withdrawn from the squad due to injury and the two absentees have been replaced by Souleymane Keita of Sivasspor, Turkey and South Africa’s Jomo Cosmos player Ousmane Berthe.
Mali’s opening game in Gabon is against Guinea on January 24.
