Contract negotiations for Orlando Pirates' Zambia star Isaac Chansa on hold during 2012 Afcon
The Chipolopolo star will only speak to the Buccaneers about an extension to his current deal at the club following the competition in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea
Contract talks between Orlando Pirates and Isaac Chansa have been put on hold in order to allow him to focus on his obligations with the Zambian national team during the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.
Chansa's contract with the club runs out at the end of the current Premier Soccer League (PSL) season in June, and the defending champions are offering him a new deal, as coach Julio Leal looks to retain all of his key players.
Chansa – who now has the option of signing a pre-contract with any club of his choice – has previously told KickOff.com that while he is eager to extend his stay at the Bucs, he would also consider the conditions of his contract he is offered a deal elsewhere.
Orlando Pirates spokesperson Mickey Modisane says talks between the club and the player will only resume after February 15, when the continental competition has been decided.
"Chansa is currently with the Zambian national team getting ready for the Africa Cup of Nations. We have therefore decided to shelve our talks with him so that he can fully concentrate on the tournament. We will resume with the discussions soon after the tournament," Modisane said.
"We cannot rush these issues. He is still our player as he is contracted with us until the end of the season."
The Sea Robbers are currently in the process of finalising contract issues with a number of players who are central to Leal’s plans, and whose contracts run out at the end of the season.
