African Nations Cup: Asamoah Gyan Defends Ghana's Defensive Strategy

Ghana’s Africa Cup of Nations hero Asamoah Gyan says it was good to hold back against Nigeria…

Ghana's man of the moment Asamoah Gyan says they took the right decision to defend their goal against traditional rivals Nigeria in Thursday's Africa Cup of Nations semi-final.

The Rennes hit man hit the back of the net with his header from team-mate Kwadwo Asamoah's corner in the 21st minute and sealed a place in the final.

"We deserved that victory. Logically, we had to defend our lead in the second half, so we naturally adopted a defensive strategy," the striker told Al-Jazeera.

The Black Stars now play against defending champions Egypt on Sunday in their first African Cup final in 18 years.

Ghana last won the trophy 28 years ago at the 1982 finals in Libya.
