The best is yet to come, insists Del Piero
The former Juventus striker did not get off to the best of starts for the Sky Blues but after a few games under his belt says he is getting stronger
Sydney attacker Alessandro Del Piero hopes to continue on what he believes is an upward curve after recently joining the club but warns he can still do better. The former Italy international suffered a 2-0 defeat on his debut against Wellington Phoenix and was unable to get himself on the scoresheet.
A week later, Del Piero opened his account for Sydney against Newcastle Jets but could not prevent his side from slumping to a 3-2 loss. Last Saturday, however, he grabbed the winner versus Western Sydney Wanderers, and the 37-year-old insists the best is yet to come.
"I'm not 100 per cent, definitely," Del Piero told reporters. "But I'm feeling good because I'm training every day and this is important."
"After five weeks, I think I'm happy to be in this condition and hope to do my best in two or three weeks," Del Piero added.
The Italian, who scored over 200 goals for Serie A giants Juventus, concedes he is still getting use to the physical nature of Australian football but is adamant he won't get special treatment by the A-League referees.
"I have to do my best. I'm not big so I have to do something else but I have time in training to understand what is best for the team," Del Piero added.
"Absolutely not, [no way do I get favoured by officials.] For sure, no. Unfortunately, not."
Del Piero looks to play in his 800th game this Sunday when Sydney meet Perth Glory.
