Harry Kewell patient on finding new club in UK
The 33-year-old Socceroo has been linked with various English clubs since returning to the UK, but revealed he's still far away from finding a new home
Clubless Socceroo Harry Kewell has revealed he isn't close to finding a new home despite speculation linking him with English clubs such as Blackburn, Middlesbrough and Swindon Town. The 33-year-old former Liverpool and Leeds United attacker left Melbourne Victory last month to return to the United Kingdom to be with his wife Sheree Murphy whose mother is fighting serious illness.
Since Kewell's return to the United Kingdom he has been linked with various clubs but told AAP he is only at the "talks" stage with no deal likely to happen anytime soon.
"I've got some positive feedback but, the way it stands, I've got to be patient," Kewell said.
"At the moment, things are - we are talking. And we just have to sort out a few things but I'm open to a lot of suggestions at the moment."
Kewell, who insisted his fitness was fine despite not being at a club as pre-season heats up, added retirement wasn't on his mind.
"Everyone has asked me, 'what are you doing' and all this and that and the thing is, when does an athlete ever realise it's time to pack it in?" he said.
"If they truly love a sport, they will keep going until, I don't know, they are 50 I suppose. I still feel confident. I still feel I've got another two or three years at a very high level and we just have to wait and see."
