Australians abroad: AZ Alkmaar's Holman provides another assist, Schwarzer helps Fulham hang on

The Netherlands-based Socceroo once again played a big part in AZ Alkmaar's success, while Tim Cahill's Everton shocked Chelsea in England's Premier League
Socceroo Brett Holman laid on the assist for AZ Alkmaar's opening goal in their 2-0 victory over Excelsior on Saturday, which keeps them level on points at the summit of the Dutch Eredivisie with PSV Eindhoven.

Holman did brilliantly before finding Maarten Martens who netted from close range on 58 minutes in the contest.

Earlier the Australian forward had seen a good chance go wide, while he had a header hit the crossbar.

Holman was replaced on 67 minutes in the win, which was sealed by Martens who completed his brace on the hour mark.

Elsewhere, Mark Schwarzer was solid in making a series of saves late on as Fulham clung on to a 2-1 win over Stoke City in England's Premier League on Saturday.

The Cottagers had been coasting at 2-0 up, but after Ryan Shawcross pulled a goal back on 78 minutes, they came under pressure. Schwarzer, though, held firm.

Schwarzer said on the club's website after the game: "I think we deserved to have the game out of their reach a lot sooner. That wasn't to be and you can never knock their determination and fighting spirit.

"You know if Stoke get a sniff they can get back in the game, you know you're going to be into a real fight to hold on to that lead."
