Interim Socceroos manager Han Berger has selected a squad of 20 players for next week's friendly against Slovenia in Ljubljana, with Nathan Burns the surprise inclusion.
The AEK Athens player impressed Berger during the recent Sydney Festival of Football pre-season tournament, where he netted for the Greek side and produced three lively performances.
A number of big name players and squad regulars have been left out of the squad due to club commitments, Harry Kewell, Marco Bresciano, Vince Grella and Brett Emerton among them.
No A-League players have been called up in order to minimalize the impact it might have on clubs with the start of the competition this weekend.
Thirteen members of the Socceroos squad that represented Australia at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa have been selected.
Bruce Djite and Jon McKain return to the national team fold after last being selected for the Asian Cup 2011 Qualifiers against Kuwait and Indonesia in January and March 2010 respectively.
This international friendly match will be the first at Slovenia’s new national stadium, Športni Park Stožice in Ljubljana.
