Jess Vanstrattan Leaves Gold Coast United For Central Coast Mariners

'Keeper makes switch to hometown club.
Gold Coast United goalkeeper Jess Vanstattan has left the club by mutual agreement and is set to join the Central Coast Mariners this week.

The Gosford-born custodian expressed a desire to return to his hometown and United’s management agreed to terminate his contract to enable the move to occur prior to the start of the new season.

Gold Coast CEO, Clive Mensink, said the club did not wish to stand in the player’s way and wished him well for the future.

“There was interest in Jess from the Central Coast Mariners and Jess himself indicated that he would like to make the move which will take him closer to his family roots,” Mensink said.

“On this occasion we did not want to stand in Jess’s way and we wish him all the very best for the future. He is an excellent goalkeeper and I’m sure he will do very well for the Mariners.”

United will now look to bring in a replacement for Vanstrattan as soon as possible with the new season set to start on August 8.

Head Coach Miron Bleiberg said he was hopeful of concluding a deal with a new goalkeeper sooner rather than later.

“Obviously securing a new goalkeeper is paramount and we will be looking to make signing as soon as possible, as long as the player is right for us,” he said.
