Socceroos head coach Pim Verbeek has called up Sydney FC attacker Alex Brosque and added Shane Lowry to his squad for the upcoming Asian Cup Qualifier against Oman

This will be Brosque’s first call-up to the national team since 2006 and his first under Pim Verbeek, coming in as a replacement for the injured Josh Kennedy.

Brosque made his senior international debut for the Socceroos against Fiji at the 2004 OFC Nations Cup in Adelaide.

Brosque has made 4 senior international appearances with his most recent in the AFC Asian Cup 2007 qualification match against Kuwait at the Sydney Football Stadium, in August 2006.

“I’m wrapped. It was totally unexpected but I can’t wait to get over to Oman and join the rest of the team," Brosque said.

"[Making the national team] is something I haven’t been thinking about but I guess it was always in the back of my mind.

"I’ve just been trying to concentrate on playing well and consistently with Sydney FC.

“I’m looking forward to training with the team for a week in Oman and I’ll be looking to learn from the experience and if I get a chance to get on the pitch I’ll be giving it my best shot.”
