Isaka Cernak is tipping Brisbane Roar to overcome the odds and record an overdue win when they travel to Adelaide to take on the Reds on Friday.

Adelaide have proven somewhat of a bogey team for the Roar in the A-League, losing just twice to the Queenslanders in thirteen meetings and not once in the past five encounters.

But Cernak knows the league is a punter’s nightmare and expects the team to build on last week’s draw against Newcastle and go one step further at Hindmarsh Stadium.

“Finally we might be able to get on a roll,” the 20-year-old said.

“We’re happy that we finally got a point but disappointed we didn’t get more from it. But we think we can go on from there and improve.

“We’re pretty confident coming into it but it’s a big game for us.”

With coach Ange Postecoglou calling on his team to work hard and show a bit of desperation, Cernak said the team’s record against the Reds would provide further motivation.

“Away in Adelaide has always been tough for us but that’s part of the challenge and makes us want it more when we go there,” the attacking midfielder said.

“So hopefully we’ll get one up on them this time.”

Another motivating factor will be revenge at the ground where the Roar’s finals hopes ended last season.

Brisbane have had to wait a long time for a chance to get back at the Reds and Cernak said he was looking forward to exorcising the demons of the preliminary final.

“We just missed our chances last time and that was our own fault,” he said. “We’re fairly confident that we’ll be able to put them away this time.”

On the back of his full game for the club last weekend and his first goal in the match before that, Cernak said he was growing in confidence, but still looking to improve.

“It was a good confidence booster to play the full match and I’m looking forward to doing it again,” he said.

“But I’m going to have to do a lot more training and get myself in the situation where I can deliver some really good balls into the box because that was probably lacking on the weekend, so I’ll try to improve on that.”
