Aussies In Europe: Kewell Fires Again For Galatasaray

Goal.com's Chris Paraskevas wraps up the contributions of Australia's Europe-based representatives.

Harry Kewell - Elano Blumer (Galatasaray) (galatasaray.org)
Harry Kewell (Galatasaray, Turkey)

Opened the scoring for his side with a well taken half-volley at the back post but should have doubled their lead thereafter, when he missed an absolute sitter in front of goal. It didn’t matter as the Turkish giants went on to make it 2-0. Replaced in the 64th minute after Trabzonspor clawed their way back to level, before Gala went on to record a nervy 4-3 win in front of their home fans.

Tim Cahill, Lucas Neill (Everton, England)

Played a full game and also played his part in the build-up to a dramatic equalizer for his side as they scraped a late 1-1 draw at home to Wolverhampton. Neill remained on the bench.

Mark Schwarzer, (Fulham, England)

Had little to do as Fulham scored a comfortable 2-0 home win over Hull.

Brett Emerton, Vince Grella (Blackburn Rovers, England)

Grella was not amongst the substitutes after injuring himself on international duty with Australia, Emerton a late substitute after a gruelling week with his country as he continues his comeback from a serious knee injury. The Rovers beat fierce rivals Burnely 3-2 at Ewood Park.

Mark Bresciano (Palermo, Italy)

Clearly has overcome the knee injury that ruled him out of international action as he played a full game in his side’s 2-1 away win over Livorno, helping them into seventh place on the Serie A table.

Luke Wilkshire (Dinamo Moscow, Russia)

Played a full game as his side suffered a 1-0 home defeat at the hands of FK Tom' Tomsk.

Scott McDonald (Celtic, Scotland)

Missed a couple of chances including a late close-range header as the Hoops were held to a frustrating scoreless draw at home against McDonald’s former club Motherwell.

Richard Garcia (Hull City, England)

Missing the start of the new season through with a serious knee problem.

Brad Jones, Rhys Williams (Middlesbrough, England)

Williams was an unused substitute as Jones played a full game and could do little about the goal that decided the clash, Borough crashing to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Watford at the Riverside.

Nick Carle (Crystal Palace, England)

Didn’t make the bench for the 1-1 draw at Cardiff.

Adam Federici (Reading, England)

Was partly responsible for the equalizer after a stray back-pass caught him out in the 3-1 defeat away against West Brom, Reading haven taken the lead earlier in the game. However, the young Australian produced a string of fine saves to keep the Royals in the match before they eventually succumbed to defeat in the second half.

Ruben Zadkovich (Derby County, England)

Didn’t make the bench as Nigel Clough’s side were held to a scoreless draw at Leicester.

Patrick Kisnorbo, Neil Kilkenny (Leeds United, England)

Kisnorbo wasn’t in the squad for the 2-1 win at home over Norwich, while Kilkenny remained an unused substitute.

Michael Theoklitos (Norwich City, England)

Wasn’t on the bench for the defeat at Leeds.

Oliver Bozanic (Cheltenham Town, England)

Out with a knee injury. Has returned to parent club Reading for treatment.

Carl Valeri (Grossetto, Italy)

Wasn’t involved in the 2-2 home draw with Padova.

Brett Holman, James Holland (AZ Alkmaar, Netherlands)

Holman was an unused substitute as Alkmaar were beaten 3-2 away by Steve McClaren’s FC Twente, Holland not in the squad.

Nikita Rukavytsya, David Carney (FC Twente, Netherlands)

No role for Carney after being seeing red playing for the reserves, though Rukavytsya was named among the substitutes for the victory over Alkmaar.

Dario Vidosic, Matthew Spiranovic (Nurnberg, Germany)

Neither were in the squad for the 3-0 home win over Hertha Berlin.

Bruce Djite (Genclerbirligi, Turkey)

Wasn’t involved in the 2-0 home win over Sivasspor.

Mile Jedinak (Antalyaspor, Turkey)

Played a full game and scored the opener as his side demolished Diyarbakirspor 4-1 at home.

James Troisi (Kayserispor, Turkey)

Wasn’t involved in the 3-0 home win over Ankaragucu.

Michael Petkovic (Sivasspor, Turkey)

Beaten twice as his side suffered an away defeat to Genclerbirligi.

Scott Chipperfield (FC Basel, Switzerland)

No match this weekend.

Ante Covic (Elfsborg, Sweden)

Kept a clean sheet to keep his side within four points of the league leaders with a 1-0 win away at Trelleborgs.

Nathan Burns (Kerkyra, Greece)

Played another full game as his side came from 2-0 down to snatch a 2-2 draw away against Egaleo, keeping them at the top of Greece’s second-tier.

Trent McClenahan, James Wesolowski (Hamilton, Scotland)

Both Aussies played full games as Hamilton conceded a late equalizer away to Dundee United.
