Sydney FC Can Be Champions - Korean Defender Byun Sung-Hwan

He only arrived in Australia on Tuesday and took part in his first training session as an official member of the Sydney FC squad yesterday morning, but new signing Byun Sung-Hwan can’t wait to kick-off his A-League career with the Sky Blues and has high expectations for the season ahead.

“Sydney team is good team. Good quality, good technicians, good coaching system,” said Sung-Hwan. “Style [of play] is simple and attacking. Very good system, [which] suits my style.”

The Korean defender recently became the second international player signed to the Sydney FC squad by coach Vitezslav Lavicka and joins the Sky Blues after seven seasons and 134 games in the K-League.

“K-League and A-League [are] very similar I think,” said the 29-year old. “Before I came I think K-League stronger - more technical, more physical - but [now] I see A-League and K-League [are] very similar standard.”

The left-sided defender enjoys playing an attacking role and brings valuable experience to Lavicka’s team.

“We need the typical full-backs [who] play well in defence, but we need to support the attacking path. He can do it,” explained the Sydney mentor.

Sung-Hwan has signed a two-year deal with Sydney and believes he and his new team are in for a successful season.

“I [am] very happy. Sydney city is beautiful,” he explained. “Sydney FC has good team, good coaching staff - this season we can be champions.”
