Socceroos Lose Emerton For Bahrain Clash
Australia midfielder Brett Emerton will be forced to sit out the forthcoming World Cup Qualifier against Bahrain after suffering a hamstring injury.
The Blackburn Rovers player was not fit enough to feature for the Premier League side at the weekend against Sunderland and club doctors have now ruled his injury will rule him out of the midweek international as well.
Emerton is the latest player to be made unavailable after coach Pim Verbeek also lost Vince Grella (hamstring), Queensland Roar captain Craig Moore (testicular cancer) and Nürnberg's Matthew Spiranovic (ankle).
Newcastle Jets defender Mark Milligan has also been ruled out with an Achilles injury.
Emerton will be a big loss for Australia after he scored twice in their previous World Cup match against Qatar.
Australia go into the match top of Group A with six points from their two games, with Bahrain fourth with just one point.
