Player Ratings: Galatasaray 1-0 Panathinaikos

Frank Rijkaard's side booked their spot in the knock out stages with a narrow win after a tight game against their Greek rivals. Goal.com rates the players in action in Istanbul...

Europa League: Galatasaray v Panathinaikos (INTIME)
GALATASARAY

Leo Franco: 7 -
Wasn't called upon often but made a crucial stop from Cisse in the second half when the striker was bearing down on goal.

Sabri Sarioglu: 6.5 -
Battled gamely with the charging Rukavina all night.

Gokhan Zan: 6.5 -
Taken off on the half hour mark after picking up a knock. Confident in the air.

Servet Cetin: 7 -
Kept Greek opportunities to a minimum in a game of few chances.

Hakan Balta: 7 -
Was committed in his tackling and showed flashes of intent when he crept into the opposition half.

Mehmet Topal: 7 -
Solid display sitting in front of the back four.

Mustafa Sarp: 7 -
Will claim the goal after his wayward drive came off Gilberto to give his side the three points. Took his disallowed goal wonderfully well in the first half and would have earned a higher mark but for some stupid fouls which he gave away needlessly in the closing stages.

Elano: 6 -
Has the talent but didn't show it to any great extent in this match.

Arda Turan: 8 -
The stand out performer by far on the pitch. Showed fabulous skill, contorting his body and using both feet to pick out Ozbek who should have done better in the first half. Always a threat when he was on the ball and delivered the set-piece which led to the goal.

Nonda: 7 -
His feather touch on the ball in the first half ruled Sarp's goal out for offside. Tried his luck from range in the second half and tested the keeper.

Kewell: 6 -
Ineffectual and looked frustrated before being taken off with half an hour to play.

Substitutes

Baris Ozbek: 7 - On for an hour and looked comfortable.

Keita: 7.5 - Replaced Kewell and showed his class with several darting runs and opportunistic strikes from range.

Ayhan Akman: N/A

PANATHINAIKOS

Tzorvas: 6.5 -
Neither of the stoppers had a great deal to do on a quiet night for shooting chances. Powerless to do anything about the goal.

Vintra: 6 -
An average display at full back in a defensive unit which too willingly conceded play in their own half.

Sarriegi: 6 -
Competed well but like the rest of his side surrendered possession too frequently for Henk Ten Cate's liking.

Kante: 6.5 -
Slightly better than his defensive colleagues. He won several balls in the air.

Darlas: 5 -
Dragged off at half-time after struggling to cope with the wizardry of Arda Turan in the first 45.

Simao: 6.5 -
Sat in front of the back line and distributed the ball well when his defensive colleagues didn't give it away.

Katsouranis: 6.5
- Made more of an impression than Karagounis and worked hard for his side.

Gilberto: 6.5 -
Can't be faulted for his own goal which caught him by surprise. Linked up well with Rukavina near the end with a fine through ball which deserved better.

Karagounis: 5.5 -
A bad night for the veteran who made a hash of his set-pieces. Wasted far too many corners and free-kicks before been taken of with 17 minutes remaining.

Cisse: 6.5 -
Should have squared matters when he burst through on goal in the first half. Was a bright spark when he got on the ball but strayed offside more often than any other player on the pitch.

Rukavina: 7 -
He was committed all night long and charged hard into Leo Franco early in the second half. Was full of running but it looked like he'd run out of puff and talent near the end when he couldn't capitalise on Gilberto's fine through ball.

Substitutes

Ninis: 6.5 - Replaced Karagounis and showed more heart for the contest even if did go to ground ludicrously inside the box moments after coming on.

Christodoulopoulos: 6 -
On for half an hour and didn't pull up any trees.

Spiropoulos: 6 -
Had the whole of the second half to make an impression and aside from his blazed free-kick over right at the death he failed to do so.
