Emery Holds Heads High
Unai Emery has spoken of his side's shock 4-2 defeat at home to Racing Santander, saying his team can still be proud of their performance...
Almost everyone, including yours truly, predicted a landslide victory for Valencia on Saturday night when they took on a struggling Racing Santander. How wrong we were, as the Cantabrians raced to a 4-2 victory.
Speaking at the post match press conference, Valencia coach Unai Emery said of his side's first loss of the season: "Racing were a worthy rival and deserved the win. We were not very fluent but we tried our best to win, especially after we had equalized for the second time."
Emery refused to criticize his side, stating, "We have to lift ourselves as soon as possible after a loss that hurts, especially at home in front of our home fans. We wasted a few chances in the first half, but we will continue with optimism."
Finally, he touched on the adverse weather conditions, saying, "We would liked to have played in a less muddy field, but that is not an excuse. Even though we had our moments, at the end of the day we conceded four goals."
Being their first loss of the season, there is no need for panic at the Mestalla; however, this result shows that, contrary to previous belief, Valencia are far from invincible.
