The football great was given the job after he beat off three other candidates in Carlos Bianchi, Miguel Angel Russo and Sergio Batista to secure his position on the bench.

Maradona is expected to lead the Argentines to World Cup 2010 and Lippi has already reacted to the news. The Italian coach believes the 1986 World Cup winner will have the players strict attention.

"I think the players will follow him totally," Lippi told La Gazzetta Dello Sport.

"Maradona has charisma and I think the players will listen to him as if he was a prophet speaking."
