Mexes Fails In Appeal
Roma’s French defender Philippe Mexes has failed in his appeal to overturn the three match ban he received following his side’s 1-0 defeat at Siena three weeks ago.
The Giallorossi have the second worst defensive record in the competition at present, with 12 goals conceded in the opening seven rounds of football. Only cellar dwellers Reggina have a worse record at this stage of the campaign.
I Lupi have been struggling on and off the field all season and their current injury crisis has not helped matters. As a case in point, due to Brazilian centreback Juan's time-out on the sidelines, the club have been forced to launch an appeal to overturn the three-match ban handed to fellow defender, Philippe Mexes after he picked up a red card in round six.
But according to a representative for the Federal Court of Justice of the FIGC, they have “rejected an appeal from Roma against the suspension of the French defender Philippe Mexes for three matches”.
Mexes’ expulsion in the match against Siena was deemed to be a “serious insult”, the Federal Court of Justice added, leaving the Giallorossi with further troubles as they prepare for a tough match in the north of Italy.
Luciano Spalletti will be hoping that Juan is fit for the contest, however time may be the issue for the man who missed his side’s 1-0 defeat in London against Chelsea midweek in the Champions League.
