Totti To Miss Udinese Clash
In a crushing blow to Luciano Spalletti's plans, Roma captain Francesco Totti is in serious doubt for the weekend’s clash with Udinese due to a minor injury.
The Giallorossi have had a torrid start to the new season and they have been simply appalling in recent weeks, stumbling to three successive defeats in all competitions.
They have been depleted by injury for most of the campaign so far and they have suffered yet another blow as Roma captain Francesco Totti, who has been arguably the side’s best performer in the past two matches, looks certain to miss this weekend's clash with Udinese.
At the conclusion of the midweek Champions League match in London against Chelsea, Totti complained of pain in his previously injured knee after picking up a knock during the 1-0 loss.
However, Roma boss Luciano Spalletti remains optimistic over the fitness of his talisman: “Totti trained well today, but we will decide tomorrow whether or not he will play in Udine.”
If the number 10 is to miss the match, it will be a big blow for the coach, who is already without Alberto Aquilani and David Pizarro, amongst others, as he travels to the Friuli to take on his former team.
Spalletti concluded by discussing the other injuries hedaches he has had to deal with.
“Pizarro has been training with the group, but won’t play this weekend. (Marco) Cassetti is improving by the day, but he too won’t play on Sunday, whilst (Julio) Baptista will return next Wednesday for the match against Sampdoria.”
The clash against second placed Udinese will kick off at 1500 CET on Sunday.
