Madrid Face Van Nistelrooy Scare
Dutch striker Ruud van Nistelrooy failed to take the pitch at Valdebebas today after suffering serious discomfort in his lower back...
Real Madrid have been rocked by the news of a possible injury to star striker Ruud van Nistelrooy after he failed to train with his teammates today. Van Goal arrived at the camp and complained to the club physios about severe pain in his lower back.
Taking no chances, coach Bernd Schuster immediately ordered that he train in the gym with midfield trio Gago, Guti, and Robben. They later headed to the pitch with fitness expert Carlos Lalin, doing some light stretches and jogging.
Meanwhile, Schuster has been given a fitness boost by the club doctors after they proclaimed Robben and Guti fit for the highly anticipated derby next weekend. Schuster is likely to field Guti as a starter, whereas Robben could make a late substitute appearance for the Meringues.
The extent of Van Nistelrooy's injury remains unknown, but an absence next weekend could mean big trouble for the German coach, who has been struggling with the serious lack of options up front.
Saviola could be given the chance to shine next weekend, but Schuster would definitely prefer to field his goal machine against the Rojiblancos in what will be a tough encounter for both sides.
