Guardiola Laments Worst Start For 35 Years
Pep Guardiola has admitted that he is frustrated with Barcelona's efforts in front of goal after his side made their worst start to a season since 1973-74.
The Blaugrana have earned just one point and scored one goal in their opening two matches and an inquest into their inability to hit the target is underway in Catalunya.
Samuel Eto'o scored six goals in pre-season and the decision to keep him was hailed as a major achievement, but he has not managed to net once in the last three official matches.
After losing against Wisla in Poland in the second leg of the Champions League qualifiers, Barça then failed to score against Numancia and only managed a penalty when playing Racing Santander at the weekend.
"Goalscoring is the most difficult thing to coach," Guardiola told reporters after the game before revealing just how bitter he was that Racing managed to earn a share of the spoils.
"This is the only sport in which you can win something despite having no shots on goal."
Racing equalised with a deflected free-kick and, factually, did not register a single effort on target throughout the 90 minutes, but still earned a point from the game.
That is no excuse given that Barça spurned so many chances at the other end against a team that they knew would go to Camp Nou and defend with almost every player behind the ball.
The Blaugrana have been playing against that system for years with teams only playing them on their own ground hoping to nullify their game rather than have one of their own.
