Gatti: Iker Is 'Horrendous'
While most regard Iker Casillas as one of the best goalkeepers in the world, the same cannot be said for Hugo ‘Loco’ Gatti. He has described the Real Madrid number one as "horrendous"...
Known for his wildfire charisma and eccentricity on the pitch and his controversial views off it, this latest outburst from ‘El Loco’ may not come as a surprise to some people. Certainly, though, it's a different take on a highly-regarded player.
For years, Iker Casillas has been hailed as one of the best goalkeepers in the world and, after being named in the Euro 2008 'Team Of The Tournament' and winning the Zamora Trophy for 2008, it seems as though he is now at his peak.
Not according to Hugo Gatti, though, who says of the Spaniard, “At present he can be the best in the world and that is in spite of him being a horrendous goalkeeper. He does not know the ABC of the arc and never catches the ball.
“What happens is that he makes an important save in a game which means the team win and then has the positive repercussions.”
This is not the first time that the former Boca Juniors goalkeeper has hit out at Casillas. In a newspaper interview back in 2004, the Argentine said, “He has to fix his problems at corners, when the ball is faster. He should wait for the ball to be hit - to delay a meter and wait for the ball to be nearer to him.”
Currently working within the media, he concluded his radio rant by saying, “If I were his manager I would give him a small glass of whisky. It removes the insecurity.”
