Gallas Welcomes Silvestre With Open Arms
Arsenal's French captain William Gallas has hailed the arrival of compatriot Mikael Silvestre at the Emirates Stadium.
The 31-year-old Silvestre caused quite a stir when he swapped Manchester United for Arsenal last week in a £700,000 deal.
In doing so, he became the fist player involved in a transfer between the English heavyweights for over 20 years.
His signing has been welcomed by his new skipper Gallas, who made an equally notable impact when he crossed the London divide when signing from Chelsea.
Silvestre has suffered an injury disrupted spell in his career over the past year, but he did manage to claim a Champions League winner's medal last season. Gallas is hopeful that the ex-Internazionale player's woes are behind him, and that he can resume his career at Arsenal.
Gallas wrote on his own website: “He is an experienced player who is going to bring us all his savoir-faire. And he knows the Premier League perfectly after playing here for 10 years.
“Therefore, his arrival is a good thing, and even if he suffered several injuries, he remains a great professional, thirsty for matches and no doubt he is going to find his best form.”
