Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has tipped new Milan signing Philippe Senderos to go on and have a successful career, despite his rock time in North London.
Senderos had been well down the pecking order at Arsenal following an error-prone season last term, and Wenger signalled his intention to let him leave after signing Manchester United’s Mickael Silvestre last week.
The 23-year-old has long been painted by fans and the press as something of a liability, but Wenger believes that he will have a successful career, be it at Milan, or at Arsenal if he returns after his loan spell.
“He was not disappointing,” Wenger is quoted as saying by Arsenal.com.
“Don’t forget Senderos is 23 years-old - that is when other central defenders just start to play.
“He has played in a Champions League Final and has played over 100 games in the Premier League. [At Arsenal] he was in a position where we had many centre backs.
“For me, he will be a very good centre back.”
Milan have been desperately searching for a centre back in recent weeks following the injury to key man Alessandro Nesta, and will be hoping that Senderos adds strength to a backline that looked creaky at times last season.
