Reports: Milan Hand Chelsea Kaka Option
There are reports in Italy that Chelsea only agreed to offload Andriy Shevchenko to Milan when the Italian club handed them an option on star man Kaka.
Yesterday
it was announced that Shevchenko was rejoining Milan, just hours after the
transfer had seemingly collapsed, and Vice President Adriano Galliani had publicly
declared that Chelsea were unwilling to allow the Ukrainian to leave on loan,
and only wanted to sell him permanently.
The turnaround by the English giants came as something of a surprise, and there is speculation in Italy that Chelsea only changed their mind when Milan handed them a future option on Kaka.
Chelsea have been consistently linked with a move for the European and World Footballer of the Year over the last few years, and this summer have been repeatedly associated with a mega-money bid for the star.
In July it was reported that Chelsea had made a €100m offer for Kaka. The next day Milan Vice President Adriano Galliani confirmed that the club had rejected a “conspicuous” offer from Chelsea but wouldn’t reveal a figure, before adding that Kaka was not for sale at any price.
Chelsea's chief executive Peter Kenyon then refuted talk of a bid for Kaka, but this didn’t stop the press reporting that the Londoners were set to make a huge €150m bid for the midfielder.
Eventually the speculation died down, but last week there were fresh reports in the English and Italian press that the Rossoneri will release their star man if Chelsea table a bid of £80m, or €102m.
The option on Kaka would probably only come into force from next summer, and would mean that Chelsea would have first refusal on Kaka should he become available to buy.
