Ben Haim Looking To Prove Chelsea Wrong

Manchester City manager Mark Hughes has admitted that new signing Tal Ben Haim is desperate to prove himself in the Premier League after a disappointing spell at Chelsea.

The Israeli centre back left London this week and became Manchester City’s latest signing in a deal thought to be in the region of £5 million.

Ben Haim was signed for Chelsea, initially by Jose Mourinho as defensive cover, but managed only ten league starts last season as he found himself behind John Terry, Ricardo Carvalho and Alex in the pecking order.

His situation wasn’t enhanced by the arrival of countryman Avram Grant as manager and he eventually left Stamford Bridge after only one season in the capital.

The defender had previously had a successful spell at Bolton Wanderers and he is clearly anxious for a return to form and first team football with his new club Manchester City.

Speaking to the club’s website, manager Mark Hughes revealed that his new signing was disappointed with his experience at Chelsea. Hughes said: “He does not feel he had enough games at Chelsea and he is looking forward to trying to establish himself in the team.”

Manchester City’s first choice centre back pairing of Richard Dunne and Micah Richards was impressive last season and Ben Haim will need to find his best form to force his way into the side.

However, his manager clearly feels that Ben Haim has plenty of motivation after his Chelsea spell which may help him to succeed in his ambition. Hughes admitted: “He has come here with a point to prove.”
