Valencia In Ambitious Eto'o Bid

Valencia are considering launching an ambitious bid to sign Samuel Eto'o from Barcelona to play alongside David Villa rather than move for Diego Milito.

Los Ché's new owner, Juan Villalonga, is keen to spend some of the €400m that he has at his disposal on bringing in a star signing to lift the club and the fans.

While all the talk of the summer has been about the exit of either Villa, David Silva or both, Valencia could not turn the tables and sign a big name while holding on to their prize assets, according to Sport.

Barcelona have made it clear that they are willing to let Eto'o go and would be keen to sell him for the right price which has yet to be matched by any interested parties.

Despite the Cameroonian striker not being part of Pep Guardiola's plans, the Blaugrana are demanding €30m for the player, but Valencia are willing to only go as high as €25m.

Villalonga is determined, but one major hurdle that he may have difficulty overcoming is the fact that los Ché are only in the UEFA Cup next term.

Eto'o has made it clear that if he is forced to leave Camp Nou then it will be for a club in the Champions League and is said to prefer Italy or England to staying in Spain.

One outrageous story suggested that Villalonga was keen to capture Eto'o to play under his former coach at Real Mallorca, Luis Aragonés, but that story was rubbished by all concerned.

Aragonés may be staying in Turkey having just joined Fenerbahçe, but talk of Eto'o heading south to Mestalla may well grow if Milan, Inter, Chelsea or Arsenal fail to make a move.
