Gilberto Edges Closer To Pana
Gilberto Silva’s potential move from Arsenal to Panathinaikos has moved closer to completion after the Greek club’s president met with representatives of the player on Thursday.
Having fallen down the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium, Brazil international Gilberto Silva has set his heart on a move away from North London.
A £1 million bid has been placed with The Gunners, with the club’s acting managing director stating that if the player agrees terms with The Prasinoi, his current employers will sanction a move.
"All is well," Panathinaikos president Nikos Pateras told Reuters after the meeting.
"Further talks are expected to take place on Friday".
Friday’s meeting is expected to see 59-capped Gilberto Silva, who won the World Cup with his national side in 2002, verbally agree to a move.
All that will then be left is for the two clubs to agree on a fee, though 31-year old’s wages will keep the amount to a minimum.
The player will follow Matheiu Flamini out of the exit door, with Emmanuel Adebayor and Aleksander Hleb’s future looking increasingly uncertain as Barcelona circle.
