Ronnie Reiterates Olympic Desire
Barcelona star Ronaldinho has reiterated his desire to play for Brazil at the Olympic Games, despite his club’s plans to prevent him from doing so…
Barca have placed an embargo upon their would-be Olympians, with Argentine ace Lionel Messi also fighting for his right to represent his country – the defending champions, at that – in Beijing.
The Catalan club released a statement yesterday declaring that Ronaldinho has been summoned to attend pre-season training, which commences on Monday.
But the two-time FIFA World Player of the Year is confident of joining up with the Selecao in August, regardless of whether the Blaugrana release him or not.
"I do not see myself being left out of Beijing," said the 28-year-old, speaking to the press at a charity event on Tuesday. "I see myself in the Olympics doing good things and bringing home the gold medal.
"I feel very motivated and happy for having been summoned to the team. My aim is now to prepare myself for the Olympic Games - an honour few players have received."
Such a statement only serves to cast Ronaldinho’s future into further doubt, as while the former Gremio star is set to leave Camp Nou this summer, it remains uncertain how Barca will react to his insubordination.
