Matrix: I Want Inter For Life
Inter defender Marco Materazzi has declared that he wants to finish his career at the club.
Materazzi joined Inter in 2001 from Perugia, and has
since gone on to become a firm fans favourite, winning three Scudetti and two
Coppa Italia titles along the way.
However ‘The Matrix’, who will turn 35 in a few months, had a miserable 2007/08 season where he struggled with injury and poor form.
This has led to reports that, in light of top quality competition from Ivan Cordoba, Christian Chivu and Walter Samuel, that Materazzi may look to quit the club if new coach Jose Mourinho cannot guarantee him a first team place next season.
However the hardman has now pledged his future to the Beneamata.
"I hope to close my career in Nerazzurro,” he declared last night.
Materazzi is currently on international duty with Italy in Austria, preparing for their first game of Euro 2008 against Holland on Monday.
The stopper is fighting with Christian Panucci and Giorgio Chiellini for the right to partner Andrea Barzagli at the heart of the Azzurri defence.
